THE SCTG PRESENTS AUDITIONS FOR
CBGB - An SCTG Punk Musical
The punk rock movement emerged in New York City around the mid-70s. It was a reaction to mainstream music, disco, conformity, capitalism, the lies of the Nixon administration, and the corporate blanding of America. Spearheaded by artists, musicians, writers, poets, journalists, designers and kids in the streets, the punk movement was raw, authentic, defiant.
Ground zero for the punk rock movement was the infamous C.B.G.B. Club, which quickly became the “it spot” for American punk acts like the Ramones, Patti Smith, Blondie, Iggy Pop, Talking Heads, Television, The Police, Sonic Youth, Joan Jett, and many more.
Against this historic and colorful backdrop, the SCTG will present C.B.G.B., an epic comedy/musical/drama that will explore the music, fashions, attitudes and outrageous personalities that defined the mid-70s punk rock era.
All the roles in the play will be iconic characters from the NYC punk scene - meaning actors will be playing true life people like Lou Reed, Andy Warhol, Deborah Harry, Nico, Vivienne Westwood, Edie Sedgwick, Richard Hell, David Byrne, Iggy Pop, Abbie Hoffman, Siouxsie Sioux, Malcolm McLaren, JohnnyLera among many others.
